Intel has disclosed some blazingly rapid new SSDs, such as products which are the first drives to utilise its 3D NAND know-how.

These 3D NAND-toting beasts are the DC P3520 and P3320 sequence of reliable-condition drives. The P3320 will be available in 2.5-inch (pictured) and PCIe card flavours, and it is optimised for charge-productive efficiency, with Intel declaring it provides no considerably less than 5 moments the efficiency of a mainstream SATA SSD, with 3.2 moments faster sequential reads.

This travel, which will be offered in capacities from 450GB up to 2TB, is intended for the enterprise – feel cloud and info crunching apps – but it displays the type of speed which is in the pipeline for buyers in the long term.

The P3520 is a very similar offering but with further efficiency and latency boosts for higher-efficiency cloud functions.

Intel also unveiled the DC D3700 and D3600 vary which the enterprise notes are its first twin-port PCIe SSDs, connecting to two host techniques concurrently for redundancy if (or when) things go mistaken.

Intelligent combo

As for SSDs which will be plonked into Ultrabooks – or in fact desktop PCs – Intel also lately disclosed the new 540s sequence which features a combo of SLC cache and TLC NAND for what the enterprise phone calls a excellent compromise between efficiency and benefit for dollars.

These drives will be offered in the two 2.5-inch and M.2 form aspects with capacities ranging from 120GB to 1TB. The foundation 2.5-inch 120GB product will provide sequential browse speeds of up to 560MB/s and create speeds of up to 480MB/s.

Intel is also making the Pro 5400s vary of higher-efficiency SSDs aimed at companies, once again with capacities from 120GB to 1TB, boasting improved stability such as aid for Reliable Computing Group’s Opal 2. protocol and Microsoft eDrive components encryption.

And of course, further down the line we have obtained Intel’s Optane SSDs to glimpse ahead to, with products aimed at enthusiast Laptop builders established to emerge at the beginning of following calendar year.
