Take a moment to review server requirements before installation, or you may encounter issues when using WooCommerce.

Upon activation, WooCommerce installs several items it requires to function properly:

  • New pages for handling the shop, cart and checkout pages
  • Custom post types and taxonomies for orders and products
  • New widgets and shortcodes
  • User roles for shop managers and customers

Automatic Installation
If you have web hosting and would like to install WooCommerce, using the WordPress Admin is the most straightforward option, as it handles the file transfer without you needing to leave the Web browser.

To install WooCommerce:

  1. Log into your WordPress Admin panel.
  2. Go to: Plugins > Add New.
  3. Type ‘WooCommerce’ into the Search Plugins field and hit Enter. Once found, you can view details on the point release, rating and description.
  4. Click Install Now. After clicking the link, you’ll be asked to confirm this action.
  5. Click Yes, and WordPress completes the installation.

FTP Setup
You may be taken to a page requesting FTP details of your webserver, if you’ve not previously installed a plugin on this WordPress installation. Fill in your details to complete installation.

Select Let’s Go! to get started. Or select Not Right Now if you prefer to manually set up your WooCommerce shop.

You can add the WooCommerce pages in several ways:

  • Go to: WooCommerce > Help > Setup Wizard > Setup Wizard. Add the pages in the second step.


  • Go to: WooCommerce > System Status > Tools > Install Pages.
  • Create the pages yourself, and add them in WooCommerce > Settings >
  • Products > Display > Shop Page
  • Checkout > Checkout Options > Cart Page and Checkout Page
  • Accounts > My Account Page

Theme not displaying correctly?
If you are using a third-party (non-WooThemes) theme and WooCommerce pages aren’t displaying correctly, ensure that your theme declares WooCommerce support. Look at the theme details page or contact the theme developer to ask.

No zip file to upload to WordPress

The settings on your Mac have automatically unzipped the theme file you downloaded.

  • Re-download using another browser that doesn’t auto-unzip, or
  • Right click the folder on your Mac, and select “Compress…” which creates a new zip file.
    Then upload the zip file via Appearance >Themes >Upload.

There are two things to understand when uninstalling WooCommerce.

  • If you deactivate and delete the plugin from the WordPress Admin, you are deleting WooCommerce settings and database tables, and trashing the pages created when first installed.
  • If you need to remove ALL WooCommerce data, including products, order data, etc., go to: WooCommerce > System Status > Tools, and enable the Remove post types on uninstall. Doing this deletes all WooCommerce data when you deactivate and delete the plugin from the WordPress Admin.

On a multisite install, WooCommerce acts as any other plugin. Each site in the network, although sharing a database, stores its information in separate tables. Thus, each site/store is a separate silo setup.

While you can network-activate plugins,such as WooCommerce and its extensions, you would not be able to share product databases, checkout, user accounts, etc. across sites in the network.

Only themes and plugins are shared across the network of sites.

To roll back WooCommerce to a previous version:

  • Disable the plugin.
  • Download and unzip the older version of the plugin from the WooCommerce repository on GitHub.
  • Log into your server with FTP.
  • Remove the newer version.
  • Upload the older plugin directory to wp-content/plugins/.
