Google Maps Now Shows If Parking is Available Near Destinations
The map has shown you have a lot of traffic on your way to your destination, so what is the best possible route choice. It can also give you a fairly accurate estimate of arrival time, which can really help sometimes.
However, what you have never expected is that when you arrive at the destination, can you find the parking lot.
Fortunately, in Google Maps Update v9.44 beta, you can now see the destination parking difficulty.
How it works
When you search for a destination, a “P” is displayed next to your route duration estimate. It uses three indicators to let you know traffic conditions:
It is actually color coded, so when the stop is “limited”, the icon will be displayed in red. “Easy” and “medium” will be displayed as blue icons. Once you start driving, it gives you further details indicating that the destination around the parking lot is “usually not easy” or “limited.”
Parking availability is not actually displayed in real time, but rather your information is based on the usual conditions that you would expect to find in your destination.
It will not even guide you into parking spaces, but at least it gives you enough information to let you decide whether you want to try to find a parking lot or not.
The new parking metrics are still being rolled out to users using Google Maps beta. If you’re already a beta testers, you can download and test it now. If you are not, you can register as a tester here.
Or you can download the APK from here and install it now.
As mentioned, features are rolling out so you may not be able to see it immediately. Availability in Pakistan will also be limited and so far no parking spaces are shown. Continue to watch this space for more updates.
