We have seen a lot of icons especially with its glossy sheen / gloss mobile applications. The same effect is applied to many images across the network and print platforms. Amazing how a subtle gloss to make your icons or images look more appealing. If you want to achieve the same effect as your icon, but do not know how, probably will help you follow these simple steps below.

Step 1: Open a new file in Photoshop


Lets keep the size 500px by 500px.

Step 2: Select a elliptical marquee tool and create a circle with any color. For reference purpose I’m gonna go with #22b1dd which is the color of skype logo.


At this point, I will add some effects circle exacerbate the sake of it. You can add your own effects to your icon.


Inner Shadow, stroke and shadow that I used to get these results. Cool, let us move forward.

Step 3: Add glossy icon / Photos

Create a new layer, select the Elliptical Marquee tool and create a circle.


Now, make sure that the foreground color to white, and jump to your gradient tool and set it to “foreground to transparent.”


Now, just drag the pointer from the top of the bottom and see the magic. If you do not get the desired results do not worry. Undo At this point, from the top onto the bottom and try again until you find what you are looking.


Step 4: Add Text and ending

Then you have a shiny effect, now add a new layer to your text, or artistic work, placing it in the gloss layer below.


Some decorative strokes or other subtle effects, see text, your work is done.

Few comments and suggestions:
Incase you are looking for a non-circular gloss, you can use the Pen tool to create a shape, right-click inside the shape, and then click “Choose.” This follows on from the above procedure.

Alternatively, you can also use a different conversion tools, such as skew, distort, perspective and change shape according to your wishes.
